This article will be useful for you if you design a floor plan yourself, or make changes to the plan designed by our team.
It will answer your questions if you want to:
Create additional layers besides the default ones
Edit multiple objects simultaneously
Adjust visibility in the final view
Create or edit a multi-floor plan
You can also find more basic instructions on working with layers here.
This article is based on Designer 2.0, and some features may work differently if you are using the first version. In this case, please contact us as soon as you have any questions.

Types of layers
Each layer in the Designer
serves a specific role, and understanding their functions will help you create professional-looking floor plans. You can work with your layers in the "Layers & assets" menu.
When you create new objects while designing a floor plan, ensure your objects are placed under layers correctly. Click on the object to see its layer on the settings panel.
If all layers are visible in the Designer, new objects get placed on the top WF layer. This layer is technical; it's invisible in the front view, so it's crucial to move the objects that are supposed to be visible to another layer.
Wayfinding
The wayfinding layer is meant for wayfinding lines (see more details about wayfinding here). Please note that the lines will only be visible in the Designer and won't appear on the live floor plan.
Foreground
In the foreground layer, you can place icons, text, labels, legends, and other elements in front of the booths. Objects placed on the foreground layer will be displayed on both the Designer and the live floor plan.
Booths
The Booths layer is designed for booths and POIs. Note that booths can also be placed on different layers, but remember that their interactivity might be affected by objects positioned in front of them.

Background
The Background layer is dedicated to elements such as the venue floor, walls, outlines, or any other structural components of the event space. Background elements will appear behind booths and the foreground elements.
You can also add a PDF or CAD file to the Background layer and use it as a blueprint, or upload a background logo.
Images (Designer only)
The Images layer allows you to upload files and use them as references to draw your map.
The images placed on this layer will only be visible in the Designer . However, if you wish to make them visible on the live floor plan, simply deselect the "Hide on View" option or switch to the foreground layer.
Please note that the same limitations in size and resolution apply to images on any of the layers.
Mapbox (area map)
In the Designer 2.0, you can add an area map to your plan even if you design the plan yourself. When you use this option, an additional layer called "Area map" is created. This layer contains the map of the surrounding area, including street and hotel names, as well as parking spots. We collaborate with Mapbox to provide this feature.
Working with layers
Editing the layer
You can apply the following setting to all the objects on the layer simultaneously:
Opacity (useful if you want to work with the layer and be able to see the objects behind it)
Dimensions to set the size of the layer (in pixels)
Angle of rotation to rotate, for example, all the booths at the same time
The objects color (Fill and Stroke)
Note that on the Booths layer, you can also edit booths in bulk.
Creating
Create a new layer by clicking the plus icon on the Layers & assets" menu. Give it a name in the pop-up window.
Deleting
Delete a layer by clicking the cross icon next to its name.
Renaming
You can rename a layer by clicking the pencil icon next to its name.
Changing the order
The visibility order is Foreground > Booths >Background, by default. You can change this order by clicking on the layer’s name and dragging it up or down. It's also useful when you create your own layer and need to give it a place in the visibility order.
Locking the layer
You can lock all the elements under a layer by clicking the lock icon next to it. For example, it's useful when you want to modify the booths but don't want to move the background elements accidentally. In this case, you can lock the Background layer.
Changing visibility in the Designer
You can change the visibility of all the elements under a layer by clicking the eye icon next to it. This feature is useful when you want to visualize the grid, but don't want to remove the background layer. It's worth mentioning that the layer visibility changes only in the Designer. Elements will remain visible in the front view.
Sublayers
It's also possible to create sublayers by clicking on the plus icon next to the layer's name, which can group all elements under a specific sublayer. For example, it lets you split booths and other POIs into two different sublayers.
Layer visibility settings (viewbox)
Not all the layers will be visible in the final view. Every layer has its own default visibility settings:
Foreground, Booths and Background are visible
WF (wayfinding) and Images (designer only) are invisible
When you upload a PDF or CAD file to the Background layer and use it as a blueprint, you should click the Hide on view toggle.
For the visible layers, you can control which part of the layer is visible by using the Viewbox tool. To choose the viewbox,
Select
the necessary layer (on the layers panel on the left)Click the "Create Viewbox" button (on the settings panel on the right)
Chose the area you want to be visible
How to create a multi-floor plan
We recommend that our team create a multi-floor plan for you to ensure the best possible result. However, you'll still be able to make edits to your design easily. Each level (floor) will have a separate layer in the Designer , so you can independently edit booths and other elements on each floor.
If you choose to create a multi-floor plan yourself, turn on the multi-level mode. This setting can be found among general settings in the workspace.
To make changes to a specific floor on a multi-level floor plan, you need to adjust the visibility of layers, making only the one you want to work on visible.
If you design a multi-floor plan yourself and want to activate wayfinding, we recommend following our tutorial on multi-floor wayfinding.
How to display full level names
Level names in the multi-level mode are simplified by default, showing the first letter of each word (up to two words), such as "Ground Floor" appearing as "GF" on buttons. To display full floor names, go to the Floor plan settings and uncheck the box Short name in level buttons.
