Our Designer can help you easily create a floor plan for your event. Alternatively, you can have our team create the floor plan design for you.
This article will help you if you design the plan yourself and want to:
Import a DXF file and turn it into an interactive floor plan
Understand DXF, image, PDF, and CAD file requirements
Use an imported file as a blueprint or a background logo
This article is based on Designer 2.0, and some features may work differently if you are using the first version. In this case, please contact us as soon as you have any questions.
Don't forget to save your progress by clicking the Save button. Use Version history to restore an older version.
Importing DXF files
The main advantage of importing a DXF file is that your layout will be converted into an interactive floor plan. However, when working with DXF files, it's essential to maintain consistency. The default layer name for booths should be "fp_booths" and, for booth names, "fp_booth_names." To avoid clutter and maintain a clean design, it's important to delete any unnecessary layers and elements. If the objects in your file contain too many elements (lines, polylines, circles), it's better to remove them and use our POI icons instead. Complicated objects may impact the performance of the floor plan.
Here is the full list of requirements:
Default layer name for booths should be fp_booths.
Default layer name for booth names should be fp_booth_names.
Booths should be polylines, with no block references.
Other layers and complicated objects should be deleted.
DXF should be created as a new file, and the fp_booths and fp_booth_names layers should be copied there, then saved and used for uploading.
How to import a DXF file
To import a DXF file, go to Floor plan settings and click the "Import from DXF" button.
Importing SVG/PNG/JPG files
Currently, the maximum resolution for the image files is 4096 x 4096 pixels. After the upload, you can scale it correctly.
Note: using complicated SVG files with too many elements can affect the performance of the floor plan. It's recommended to simplify your file or convert it into other file types.
To import an image, go to the Designer
and click on the Add as image
button. If you click on the image, you'll see its properties, such as the size and the layer, on the right.
There are a few ways how you can use the imported image:
As a background for your floor plan (including background logo)
As a logo that highlights a sponsor of a space
As an icon that helps you customize a POI style
As a blueprint
If you use the image as a blueprint, make sure that it is placed on the "Images (only Designer)" layer, otherwise it will be seen on the front view.
Note: the maximum resolution for display on Android devices is 4096 pixels. Exceeding this resolution may cause display issues on Android devices.
Adding a background logo
Logo in Booth and Logo in Header are ExpoFP in-built sponsorship options. The exhibitor logos are pulled automatically to the floor plan, once these options are reserved by an exhibitor or assigned by you. Background logos, however, have to be added manually.
The background logo typically features the event's logo along with the main information about the event. The logos can also display sponsors of the pavilions, lounge zones, food courts, etc.
If you use an image as a background logo, the preferred formats are PNG and JPG. You could also use an SVG file unless it contains many detailed elements.
The preferred size for background logos is 512 x 512.
If you've got a large background image, it is recommended to use a resolution of up to 2048 pixels in width or height.
Make sure that you change the layer of the logo. If it stays on the default "Images (designer only) layer", it will not be displayed in the front view. You should place the logo on the Background or Foreground layer.
Importing PDF and CAD files
PDF or CAD files can also be used as a blueprint or a background for your plan. To upload the file, use the Import PDF & CAD button that you will see after clicking on the three dots on the toolbar.
After the upload, you will be asked whether you want to merge the file with the existing content or replace the current content with the file.
If you are just starting to design a plan, either option will work.
If you have already created a plan and want to keep your progress, choose Merge.
In both cases, a new layer is automatically created for the imported file. This layer is named Background. If your plan already has a Background layer, the new one will be created and named Background_1 by default.
Once the layer is created, you can edit it like any other layer.
If you use the file as a blueprint, don’t forget to click on the Hide on View toggle so that exhibitors and attendees don’t see the content from the file. Alternatively, you can place it on the "Images (designer only)" level.
